Surface Treatments

An improved performance

Surface treatment is a complex and multifaceted process that is critical to the success of many industries, among which the aerospace and automotive industries. Our decades-long experience and cutting-edge grinding solutions that achieve finest surfaces has established us as the preferred partner in the precision grinding of surface coatings.

Precision Grinding of Surface Coatings

Precision Grinding of Surface Coatings

Depending on the application, the spectrum of requirements for the surface quality of coated workpieces greatly varies from protection against wear, corrosion resistance, thermal and electrical insulation, to an improved aesthetic appearance. In practice, however, the surface quality of the components often needs to fulfill several requirements, making it natural for the workpieces to be exposed to numerous types of processing simultaneously. For example, the workpieces are exposed to high abrasion and high thermal stress, while at the same time they must be both wear and corrosion resistant.

We at Meister Abrasives recognized the importance of surface treatments early on and have developed cutting-edge superabrasive tools to address the challenges in the grinding process of coatings. We work closely with our customers to develop customized solutions that meet their unique needs and help them stay ahead of the competition. Employing Meister’s high-performance grinding tools can ensure precise and consistent surface qualities.

Coated Brake Discs

Coated Brake Discs

Finding innovative solutions to reduce traffic-related particulate matter pollution – much of which comes from the abrasion of tires and brakes, is a crucial task for the automotive industry with stricter regulations coming into effect. In order to reduce the formation of particulate matter, wear-resistant materials, such as tungsten carbide, titanium carbide or niobium carbide are applied to conventional brake discs using different coating processes. However, due to their hardness and the particular coating process, machining such coatings is a challenging procedure that requires specialized grinding tools and precise execution.

Drawing upon its extensive expertise in processing hard materials and coatings, Meister Abrasives is making a valuable contribution to these new advancements by providing and continuously improving its high precision superabrasive solutions to grind that new generation of brake discs. To reach the required surface quality of the brake discs’ coating, our team of engineers and process technicians has been developing new technologies and wheel designs. Our profound knowledge and experience in grinding coated brake discs, enables our advanced precision grinding tools to achieve highest efficiency and precision with regards to optimized cost per part, cycle times, and total process costs.

Stator Vane Bushings

Stator Vane Bushings

Technological developments increase the performance of modern engines, meaning that the compressor and its components, among which the stator vane bushings, are subject to high pressure and high temperatures. Therefore, the materials of which the bushing is fabricated, the way it is coated, and its processing are essential to ensuring the optimal performance of that segment. Part of the processing of stator vane bushings includes a multistep grinding process composed of several grinding operations: internal diameter (ID) grinding, outer diameter (OD) grinding, face- and chamfer grinding. Expert in grinding technology, Meister Abrasives has developed the optimal solution for grinding the complex shape of a stator vane bushing and its coating. Due to the unique technology and structure of our grinding wheels, the often challenging-to-grind carbide is now smoothly processed.
